About Alton Towers

Alton Towers is one of the UK’s most iconic and beloved theme parks, offering a mix of record breaking roller coasters, immersive themed areas, and family friendly attractions. Located in Staffordshire, the park spans over 900 acres of land, blending its rich history with cutting edge rides and entertainment.

Originally, Alton Towers was far from the theme park it is today. The site’s history dates back to the 1800s, when it was a private estate and the home of the Earls of Shrewsbury. The grand gothic mansion at the heart of the park, which now stands as a hauntingly beautiful ruin, remains a nod to its past. In the 20th century, the grounds began opening to the public, and by the 1980s, the transformation into a full scale theme park had begun. Over the years, Alton Towers has evolved into one of Europe’s premier amusement destinations, continuously innovating with record breaking attractions and themed experiences.

One of the defining characteristics of Alton Towers is its commitment to catering to a wide audience. Thrill seekers flock to the park for its legendary roller coasters, including Nemesis Reborn, the UK’s first inverted coaster; Oblivion, the world’s first vertical drop coaster; and The Smiler, which holds the world record for the most inversions on a roller coaster. Each of these rides delivers a unique and intense experience that keeps adrenaline junkies coming back for more.

For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, Alton Towers also offers plenty of family friendly attractions and beautifully landscaped gardens. CBeebies Land is a major draw for younger visitors, providing gentle rides and interactive experiences based on popular children’s TV shows. Other attractions like Gangsta Granny: The Ride and The World of David Walliams bring beloved literary characters to life, making the park a fantastic destination for families with children of all ages.

Beyond the rides, Alton Towers offers a full resort experience. The Alton Towers Hotel, the enchanted village lodges, and the water park provide overnight guests with immersive themed accommodations and entertainment beyond park hours. The water park, in particular, is a favourite among families, featuring slides, lazy rivers, and tropical themed attractions.

Alton Towers is not just a place for thrill rides; it is a carefully designed world of adventure, appealing to all ages and interests. Whether you’re looking for heart pounding excitement, a fun filled family day out, or even just a peaceful stroll through stunning historic gardens, the park has something for everyone.
